ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - The Jolly Pumpkin Restaurant and Taphouse along Main Street in Royal Oak shuttered their doors this week -- but in its place, something new is set to open.

The brewery and restaurant, nestled in the heart of downtown Royal Oak, announced their closure in a Facebook post on Sunday, Oct. 29, saying: "Our hearts are heavy with a mix of gratitude, nostalgia, a touch of sadness and even excitement as we bid farewell to Jolly Pumpkin on Main & Fifth."

It wasn't immediately clear why the restaurant decided to close, but the post said their Detroit location on Canfield in Midtown is still open for business.

The company has several other locations across Michigan, including Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Dexter, Grand Rapids and East Lansing.

Jolly Pumpkin opened its Metro Detroit location back in 2017 at the site of the former Bastone Brewery and Vinotecca Wine bar. The company thanked the surrounding community and guests to the restaurant for their support for over five years, but said they were expected to start their "new chapter."

"We are eager to begin a new culinary journey with our staff and the community; and on Friday, November 3rd we'll do just that by unveiling Bandit Tavern & Hideaway," officials for the restaurant said.

The post went on to the say the neighborhood restaurant and bar will serve "southern hospitality" with food and beverage menus drawing inspiration from southern-style cooking.

A few fan favorites from past partners that called the same location home will also make a cameo appearance on the menu.

"So, make sure to mark your calendar and join us for the Grand Opening of Bandit on Friday, November 3rd at 11 a.m.," they went on to say.
