YPSILANTI, Mich. (WWJ) – A Washtenaw County judge has temporarily halted parties at an Eastern Michigan University fraternity that has been linked to numerous sexual assaults in recent years.
The judge on Wednesday issued a preliminary injunction against Delta Tau Delta that prosecutors and Ypsilanti city officials had been seeking in a public nuisance lawsuit.
No alcohol will be allowed at any Delta Tau Delta facilities, and there may be no more than five guests at any fraternity-controlled property, including the fraternity house, under the judge's orders.
Judge Tim Connors made the ruling due to the serving of alcohol to minors and the creation of "an environment conducive to sexual assault."
There have been 15 reported sexual assault cases involving the Delta Tau Delta House since 2014, according to a report from MLive.
The DTD house has been the subject of student protests, calling for the fraternity to be held accountable for the assaults. MLive reported at least six people linked to the fraternity are facing criminal charges, while there have been nearly two dozen police reports connected to DTD.
The fraternity settled a lawsuit last December with eight female students who had alleged they were sexually assaulted at the house ot by former members of the fraternity.
