LANSING (WWJ) – A young boy is in critical condition after shooting himself outside a Lansing gas station on Tuesday.
Lansing police officers were called to a Sunoco gas station on Dunckel road around 3 p.m. after getting reports of a shooting, according to a report from WILX.
When officers showed up they found a 2-year-old who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition, according to WILX.
Authorities believe the child had been left alone inside a car, where he had access to a gun.
A 44-year-old man reportedly ran from the scene but was taken into custody, according to WILX. It was not immediately clear whether he was the child's father.
WLNS reports the gun has not been recovered.
Earlier this month Detroit police dealt with two similar incidents, as a 4-year-old was shot by his brother with an unsecured weapon, just over a week after an 8-year-old was shot in the head while his parents were asleep in the middle of the day.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ Newsradio 950 for the latest details as they become available.
