SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - One man from Livonia was pulled from the water by authorities after his vessel capsized while on a section of the Grand River on the state's westside Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office via the Holland Sentinel, the 51-year-old man was traversing waters alone on a 12-foot aluminum boat around 1 p.m. when it flipped over.
The Livonia resident was navigating a part of the Grand River in Spring Lake Twp., just east of Grand Haven, near the intersection of South Street and Prospect Street when the incident occurred.
The Sheriff's Office said the man was able to hoist himself on the hull of the overturned boat and cried out for help.
Rescue response was a coordinated effort between deputies, the Michigan DNR, Spring Lake Township Fire, North Ottawa Community Hospital Ambulance and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The man was safely pulled from the water and was treated for exposure, authorities said.
The man's boat was also recovered.
Additional information, such as what caused the boat to capsize, was not released by authorities at this time.
