MACKINAC COUNTY (WWJ) -- A 34-year-old Northern Michigan woman has been arrested and charged in the deadly shooting of a family member.
A homicide investigation began Thursday evening, according to Michigan State Police, when troopers with the St. Ignace Post responded to a call about shots fired at a home in Mackinac County, just north of Hessel.
At the scene, police discovered a 73-year-old man dead with an apparent gunshot wound.
A short time later, troopers found the suspect just down the road and an arrest was made. She has since been identified as Joelle Chamberlain, a relative of the man who was killed.
In a news release Friday, MSP Lt. Mark Giannunzio noted: "Numerous indicators of this female being involved in the homicide were observed at which time she was taken into custody."
MSP did not specify exactly what those indicators were.
Police said both Chamberlain and the victim are from the Hessel and Pickford area.
Chamberlain was arraigned in 92nd District Court on a charge of Open Murder, and was ordered held without bond in the Mackinac County Jail.
It's not clear at this time what may have led to the shooting.
The victim's name was not immediately released.
MSP troopers were assisted by the Mackinac County Sheriff's Department, Sault Tribal Police, Clark Township EMS, and the MSP Forensic Lab in Grayling.
