
MACKINAC ISLAND (WWJ) The Mackinac Island Police investigated a bomb threat made against a venue in the downtown area.
In a statement, the Mackinac Island Police Department said Mackinac Island Emergency Response personnel received the report of the threat on Saturday (7/27) around 6:35 p.m.
“Appropriate precautions were taken and the threat was determined to not be credible,” the statement read.
According to the Mackinac Island Town Crier, an unknown suspect called the bomb threat into the Community Hall on Market Street. At the time of the threat; Straits Pride, a local LGBTQ+ group, was hosting a Drag Queen Bingo event at the Hall.
In a statement on their website; Straits Pride confirmed that the threat was made during their event.
“We will face any challenge with resilience and unity, knowing that our strength lies in solidarity and love…” they said. “Our pursuit of equality and acceptance will never be obstructed by hate.”
According to Straits Pride’s statement; everyone evacuated and “was safe.”
A long list of agencies assisted Mackinac Island Police during the incident: FBI, Michigan State Police-Cadillac Post/K9, Mackinac Island Fire Department, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, Mackinac County 911 and Emergency Management, Mackinac Island Emergency Medical Services, Mackinac Marine Rescue, and Mackinac Carriage Tours.
