New Haven High School sent students home for the day on Monday after a reported threat was discovered in the morning.
A voicemail was left on the main line of the school at 2:51 p.m. on Friday, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The message wasn’t played until Monday morning because staff had left before the call was received on Friday.
Authorities said the message was believed to be from a “male caller possibly using a foreign accent.” The threat reportedly said the school would be targeted within 15 minutes. School officials immediately notified the school resource officer and the Sheriff’s Office.
A search of the school was conducted with two explosive detection K-9s. No suspicious items were found during the search of the building.
As part of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office began looking into the phone number associated with the message. Detectives said multiple law enforcement agencies across the country had queries in about the same number on Apr. 30 and May 1.
The Sheriff’s Office said while there is no evidence of a credible threat to New Haven Schools, they will continue to monitor the situation.
