WARREN (WWJ) -- A Macomb man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly attacking a woman, shoving her into his car and forcing her to swallow narcotics.
The episode began Sunday, Dec. 11 at a Motel 6 on Chicago Rd. near Van Dyke Ave in Warren, according to police.
Jerry Thompson, 41, is said to have had a physical altercation with a woman, who fled a motel room crying and screaming. After catching up to her, Thompson allegedly forced the victim into the back of his car and sped off.
By then, a passerby at the Motel 6 had called police. Officials say Thompson eluded capture twice before crashing into a fence in a residential neighborhood in Detroit. He then fled on foot.
The victim was found in the abandoned vehicle. Police believe Thompson made her ingest an unknown narcotic. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Three days later, on Dec. 14, Thompson tried to pick the woman up from the hospital and was arrested.
"The defendant was a danger to the Metro Detroit area," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, "and I am thankful for the hard work of the Warren, Sterling Heights and Detroit Police Departments to arrest this man."
On Monday, Thompson was charged with kidnapping, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and assault and battery. The kidnapping charge carries a life sentence.
Bond has been set at $1 million. If bailed out, Thompson will have to wear a steel cuff GPS tether and is barred from contact with the victim.
A probable cause conference is set for Thursday, January 4, with a preliminary exam scheduled for Monday, January 12.
