SHELBY TWP (WWJ) A Macomb Township man, accused of selling and illegally transporting marijuana in Shelby Township neighborhoods, faces felony drug charges.

In a social media post, Shelby Township Police said their Special Investigation Unit started looking into reports of drugs being sold in the neighborhoods.

Their investigation, which started on Wednesday (February 26), led to a traffic stop on a white F-150 in the area of M-53 and Hall Road; police said.

According to police; officers arrested the driver, Adrian Khoshnaw, and searched his truck-- discovering almost 120 pounds of marijuana and over $7,000 in cash that was “directly related to the sale of the marijuana on the black market.”

Police, said at the time of the traffic stop, the marijuana was “illegally transported."

Khoshnaw, of Macomb Township, was arrested and lodged at the Shelby Township Police Department until arraignment.

He was arraigned on Thursday (February 27) in 41-A District Court on charges of Felony-Controlled Substance-Delivery/Manufacturing Marijuana.

Khoshnaw was given a $10,000 bond.

“Marijuana is legal in our state, but that doesn’t mean you can transport it however you want,” Shelby Township Chief of Police Robert J. Shelide said. “If you choose to illegally transport marijuana, understand that you are breaking the law. Our officers are trained to identify and intercept drug trafficking, and we will continue to enforce the law to keep Shelby Township safe.”

According to Michigancannabis.org, transporting up to five kilograms of marijuana (about 11 lbs) is considered "drug trafficking" under Michigan law. That carries a fine of up to $20,000 and a sentence of up to four years in prison. At the furthest extreme, anyone trafficking and selling more than 45 kg (99+ lbs) of marijuana is subject to a fine of up to $10 million and a prison sentence of up to 15 years. Selling lesser amounts also carries years of jail time and hefty fines. Additionally, Michigan law prohibits residents from mailing marijuana. More on Michigan's cannabis trafficking laws.
