(WWJ) A 42-year-old Pontiac man is facing charges after police responding to a 911 call about his mother discovered his large collection of child pornography.

Matthew Brockway Kliewer was arraigned in 50th District Court on Tuesday on six felony counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Kliewer was arrested as his home, in the 500 block of Madison Avenue, after deputies responded for a welfare check.

Kliewer had called for help, officials said. reporting that his mom was drifting in and out of consciousness.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Authorities said the circumstances of her death remain under investigation.

While inside the home, deputies reported seeing images of child pornography that had been printed out, and were lying around in plain view.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives seized computers, gaming systems, and a cell phone. Investigators said thousands of additional images were discovered on the electronic devices.

“I appreciate the diligence and attention to detail of our deputies who while they were checking on the welfare of an elderly woman, who sadly passed, were able to see in plain view very disturbing child sexually abusive material” Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said, adding: “The terrible toll this takes on children must be laid at the door of the perpetrators .”

Judge Cynthia Walker set bond at $75,000 (cash, surety, or 10%), with an electronic tether if he is released.

Kliewer is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference on April 28, followed by a preliminary examination on May 5.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted as charged.
