SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — A West Michigan man is being held on $3 million bond after being arrested on human trafficking-related charges at a Southfield hotel last week.

Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren on Monday announced 32-year-old Prenentice Mack Orr of Wyoming — a suburb of Grand Rapids — has been charged with felony torture, felony prostitution/transporting persons and felony human trafficking — forced labor.

Orr was arrested Friday, Nov. 22 at the Sonesta Suites in Southfield, near I-696 and Lahser, after an employee called 911 to report a woman was in the lobby saying she was being sex trafficked.

The employee put the victim, a 32-year-old Georgia woman, on the phone and let her describe the sequence of events to the dispatcher. The woman said she had been trafficked for about two weeks.

The woman told police she had met Orr through a mutual friend while she was homeless in the state of Georgia. He then forced her into performing sexual acts in exchange for money in Georgia, Grand Rapids and other cities across Southeast Michigan, according to Barren.

The victim told officers that Orr was "very controlling and regimented in what she must do." He forced her to shower and brush her teeth five times aday and he took her ID, cell phone and credit cards and prohibited her from speaking to anyone.

Orr also allegedly kept the proceeds from her prostitution, the chief said.

The victim told police Orr deprived her of food and only allowed her to drink coffee and sea moss, a supplement sometimes used for weight loss. Orr allegedly mixed the sea moss and coffee and forced her to drink it.

Orr told the woman he wanted to take her to Florida to have a weight loss surgery, Barren said.

Due to her liquid diet, the woman said she experienced body and stomach pains. As she slept, Orr would wake her up for potential clients by sexually assaulting her, according to police.

He allegedly intimidated her by telling her if she left he would kill her and that he had killed people before.

She told police she would have sex with Orr at his request because she was fearful that he would harm her if she didn't.

Orr was arrested at the hotel without incident and the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for her illnesses. She was taken to a shelter and is expected to make a full recovery.

Barren said Monday investigators have learned Orr has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1999. His past convictions include armed robbery, pimping, drug trafficking and domestic violence, having taken place in Colorado, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania and now Michigan.

Barren said Orr travels with another woman who has also "been manipulated into this lifestyle," where her duties include watching Orr's 4-year-old son, who was in the hotel when he was arrested.
