(WWJ) – A man is awaiting extradition to Michigan in connection with a 2011 cold case murder in Lapeer County.

Chadwick Shane Mobley, 42, is in police custody in Montana and will be charged with the murder of Andrea Eilber, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

Eilber, 20, was found shot in the head at her aunt’s home in Lapeer in November 2011. Her boyfriend, then-19-year-old Kenneth Carl “KC” Grondin, was arrested for her murder, according to a report from the County Press.

While Grondin was convicted in 2015, the conviction was overturned in 2018 due to issues with the verdict form at the trial, according to the County Press. He remains on a tether.

Authorities had been unable to identify other DNA evidence found at the scene until evidence from a cigarette butt was reanalyzed in 2022 and led authorities to Mobley, according to the report. He lived in Auburn Hills in 2011, the report said.

At the time the DNA evidence was retested, Mobley was living in Utah, according to Nessel’s office. He allegedly fled shortly after being questioned by Michigan State Police.

He was arrested Wednesday in Libby, Montana and remains in custody of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Mobley will be charged with one count each of first-degree murder, felony murder and felony firearm, according to the AG. A date for his appearance before a Michigan judge has not yet been determined.

“I appreciate the hard work and coordination between the Michigan State Police, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and law enforcement agents in Utah who helped facilitate this arrest,” Nessel said, per a press release. “My department remains committed to seeking justice for crime victims, regardless of how long it takes to receive it.”

Mobley was tracked down by police thanks to the help of citizens who had seen his picture posted on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page.

The exact connection between Mobley and Eilber is unclear.
