OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - A 35-year-old Dearborn man charged with ethnic intimidation last week in Oakland County is making headlines again after he appeared in a Wayne County courtroom on Tuesday in a separate case — and mooned the judge.
Hassan Chokr -- who has been charged in an anti-Semitic rant outside Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township last week-- yet again disrespected a judge in Detroit during an emergency bond hearing on separate charges just one day after an outburst in an Oakland County courtroom.
"I don't know, this guy is really something here," WWJ's Charlie Langton said to Jonathan Carlson on Thursday morning. "On Monday he flipped off a judge and then on Tuesday he mooned a different judge"
Chokr is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $1 million bond for ethnic intimidation when he allegedly spewed anti-Semitic threats at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township, located on Telegraph, near 14 Mile Rd.
"But, he had been on a personal bond on a different case for 2020 when Chokr allegedly assaulted a woman at the Islamic Center of America on Ford Road," Langton said. "Now the judge revoked his bail on that case... but he is to the tried on that case next year."
Chokr was released on a $10,000 bond two and a half years ago in that case where he ended up charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting a police officer.
The 35-year-old allegedly assaulted a female volunteer and was chased down the street while armed with a gun by Dearborn police, WDIV reported.
Langton said the judge -- who had previously released Chokr on that personal bond -- ordered a mental examination which will be done before trial.
"It looks like there is some need for that as well," Langton stated.
According to Langton, Chokr will remain in jail until at least trial, even if he can post the $1 million bond given by the Oakland County judge due to the latest ruling stemming from the case in Detroit.
"The judge must determine whether or not he is a danger to society and in both cases, judges said he was a danger to society," Langton said.
Chokr has now been charged with two felony counts of ethnic intimidation for the alleged events in Oakland County last week.
According to witnesses, Chokr allegedly drove into the parking lot in a white van during the usual Early Childhood Center (ECC) drop-off time. Witnesses there said he began filming families and verbally harassing them.
"[He was] asking them about Israel and making comments about that," said Rabbi Miller. "He also was hurling some racist epithets at some of our staff."
The man was also overheard saying, "Kanye was right."
