HOLLAND, Mich. (WWJ) - A 19-year-old Holland man in West Michigan has been charged with murder and attempted murder after police accuse him of carrying out a fatal shooting that killed one and critically injured the other near Hope College.
Authorities from Holland said Cinecca Madison was arraigned on one count each for Open Murder, Assault with Intent to Commit Murder and Felony Firearm after Wednesday's shooting.
An additional charge, a second count of felony firearm, was added by the prosecutor and Madison's bond was denied, WWMT reported.
Holland police said the two victims, an 18 and 19-year-old, were riding their bikes near 16th Street and College Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect started firing at them.
Police said the shooting was not random and it does appear Madison knew the two victims.
The 19-year-old was transported to Holland Hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead. The 18-year-old was taken to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and is said by Holland Police to be in critical condition.
The shooting occurred blocks away from the campus of Hope College, prompting the school to go into lockdown for several hours.
College officials said in a statement neither the shooter or the victims were students at the university; the lockdown was lifted around 1 a.m. Thursday.
The police investigation led to the identification and arrest of Madison on Thursday.
