MIDLAND (WWJ) A Michigan man has died in a single occupant plane crash in the central part of the state.
The Midland County Sheriff said the plane plummeted into a field in rural Jasper Township, about 15 miles southeast of Mt. Pleasant.
Deputies told mLive that a passerby alerted authorities after seeing a plane on fire in a field around 1:30 p.m. Monday morning.
A 23-year-old man, the pilot, from the neighboring Gratiot County was found in the cockpit and pronounced dead on scene.
The cause of the plane crash is unknown. The Midland County Sheriff is turning the investigation over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
