BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – An Oakland County man has died after his car was hit by a semi-truck Monday afternoon.

The 70-year-old Orchard Lake man was headed east across the northbound lanes of Telegraph around 1:15 p.m. Monday, trying to enter the Bloomfield Town Square Shopping Center, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

As the man was crossing Telegraph, he was hit by a semi-truck and trailer that was northbound on Telegraph, officials said.

The man, who was alone in his car, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital.

Authorities do not believe the truck driver had been using drugs or alcohol. It is still under investigation whether drugs or alcohol were a factor for the victim. Investigators are waiting for toxicology results.

Officials did not say whether the semi-truck driver was injured.

Members of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT) were called out and responded to the scene to do a full investigation of the crash. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police also responded to assist in the investigation.

The case is still under investigation by the Bloomfield Township Traffic Division.
