Man killed in hit-and-run near Wayne State University

DETROIT (WWJ) — A hit-and-run driver killed a man in Midtown Detroit on Wednesday, according to police.

Detroit Police said, around 5:10 p.m. on March 6, officers from Wayne State University Police Department responded to two simultaneous scenes involving an “Auto Accident” and “Pedestrian Down” in the area of Woodward Ave. and Parsons.

Police told WWJ that the victim was walking by Woodward and Martin Luther King Boulevard, about half a mile from Little Caesars Arena, when a black sedan struck him.

The driver fled the scene and hit another vehicle in the area of Woodward and I-75, according to police.

The suspect, a man in his 20’s, was arrested and taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the other car, a man in his 30’s, was also taken to the hospital. He’s expected to survive, according to police.

The pedestrian died at the hospital. He was in his sixties.

While Wayne State University initially responded to the calls, the Detroit Police Fatal Squad Unit has taken over the investigation.
