HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) – The search is on for a man who allegedly used counterfeit money to buy a large amount of gift cards at a Macomb County 7-Eleven store last week.

The owner of the store told the sheriff’s office the man came in on June 7 to buy $1,000 worth of gift cards. He allegedly used counterfeit bills to purchase a portion of the cards.

The sheriff’s office on Tuesday released video of the man inside the store, showing him wearing a dark gray football jersey with an orange “1” on it, gray shorts and white sneakers. The suspect has dreaded hair.

Authorities did not say how long it took employees to realize the money was fake.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the case to contact Detective Stone at 586-307-9379 or by email at anthony.stone@macombcountymi.gov.
