(WWJ) - A shooter convicted in the 2020 murder of a 29-year-old guest standing outside a haunted house attraction in Pontiac was sentenced to at least 17 years in prison, officials announced on Tuesday.
Damon Parker Terrelle, 19, was sentenced in 6th District Count after he was convicted on second degree murder and felony firearms charges.
Officials say Terrelle was 17-years-old at the time of the shooting, which occurred shortly after midnight on Sept. 27, 2020.
The Oakland County Sheriff's office told WWJ at the time that Terrelle believed the victim and his girlfriend cut in front of him in line at the Erebus Haunted House on Perry Street near Huron and Woodward in Pontiac.
Terrelle and the man got into a heated argument and the victim told his girlfriend he was headed back to his vehicle. Officials say Terrelle followed the man before he pulled out a weapon and fired at the man.
A blue sedan quickly fled the scene after the victim was shot in the neck, chest and side. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.
Apprehension Team, in partnership with U.S. Marshals, arrested Terrelle near the Indiana border nearly a week after the incident.
