HAZEL PARK (WWJ) – Michigan State Police are investigating after a man said another driver opened fire on his car along I-75 Saturday night.
MSP officials say the man was headed south on I-75 near 9 Mile Road in Hazel Park around 9:15 p.m. when he noticed a white Ford Focus was following him for several miles.
When the driver crossed I-696, he heard around 10 gunshots ring out and saw muzzle flashes coming from the Ford, according to MSP.
The suspect's vehicle exited at 9 Mile Road, while the victim pulled onto the shoulder.
The caller initially told police he was waiting for officers on the shoulder, but troopers were unable to find him and he would not answer his phone.
Authorities say the caller ended up driving home when he noticed bullet holes in his car and then called Dearborn police.
Troopers showed up and verified the damage, before going out to the freeway to search for evidence. While officials said the freeway was closed from I-696 to 9 Mile Road for several hours as MSP canines searched, they did not say whether any shell casings were recovered.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities have not said whether there may be a possible motive in the shooting.
