FARMINGTON (WWJ) - Police say a Farmington man who called police to report damage to his car on Tuesday morning was shot minutes later in what is being called a "targeted" attack.

According to the Farmington Public Safety Department, officers are currently investigating the incident which occurred just after 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 1 after the victim called to report he had been shot at his residence at 33230 Slocum Street off Grand River Avenue near Farmington Road.

Officials said they first received a call from the man shortly after 8 a.m. who believed someone had purposely slashed a tire on his pick-up truck. Not four minutes after he hung up with police, he called back to inform dispatch that he had been shot.

Officers were able to respond to the scene within two minutes and found the victim laying on the ground near his vehicle. Authorities rendered aid before the victim was trasnported to Beaumont Hospital – Farmington Hills.

He is currently in critical condition, police said.

“Although the investigation is ongoing and fluid, it is clear after reviewing the preliminary evidence that the victim of the shooting was targeted," Director Ted Warthman said in a release. "Detectives are continuing to process evidence, interview witnesses and reviewing surveillance video.”

Authorities are on the look out for the suspect, who is described as a light skinned black male who left the scene as a passenger in a gray, Ford Fusion with heavily tinted windows and no license plate.
