DEARBORN (WWJ) - Residents in Wayne County are keeping a weary eye out after Dearborn police say a man was injured in a random stabbing on his doorstep — and the suspect is still on the loose.
As reported by WXYZ, Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Ternes and Colson after a man went to answer his door after hearing someone knocking.
When he opened it, Shahin said the man was attacked.
The police investigation into the stabbing drew the attention of neighbors, who told WXYZ that they saw numerous squad cars in the area around 11 p.m., setting them on edge.
Dearborn police said the suspect was wearing a mask and attacked the victim with what appeared to be a pocket knife. The man sustained a minor injury to his hand and is expected to make a full recovery.
According to authorities, the incident appears random as the victim and suspect did not know each other. No motive has been determined so far and police are still searching for the suspect.
Police have urged residents in the area to remain cautious and vigilant. If anyone has any information about this crime or if anyone that has surveillance video that could assist investigators, they've been asked to call the Dearborn Police Department at 313-943-2240.
