PLYMOUTH TWP. (WWJ) A driver struck a Plymouth Township Police car late Monday night.
Michigan State Police say the driver told them he fell asleep at the wheel on his way home from work before he struck the patrol car.
State Police were called to the scene at the eastbound M-14 ramp to southbound I-275 around 11:45 p.m. Monday.
"The driver of a Grand AM entered the curve ramp too fast and lost control of the vehicle on the left shoulder," a release from State Police said.
The Grand AM then spun to the side and struck the back of a parked patrol car, according to State Police.
The driver was pinned inside his vehicle with head injuries, and lost consciousness. Police said the officer, who was responding to another crash, was not hurt. The police car had its emergency lights on.
The driver is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
