(WW) A man suspected of driving under the influence of drugs broke free during an arrest and took off running across a Detroit freeway.

According to Michigan State Police, it happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday, after the man was pulled over on westbound I-94 near the Lodge Freeway.

After police say he failed a field sobriety test, troopers were trying to handcuff the man when he broke free, sprinted across the freeway and ran up an embankment.

The man was ultimately stopped after troopers chased him down and deployed a Taser. He was taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of his vehicle, troopers recovered about $8,000 in cash and 43 suspected Oxycontin pills, police said. A blood draw was ordered at a local hospital before the man was taken to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.

The suspect's name is being withheld with expected charges pending.
