(WWJ) -- A man intending to join the "Freedom Convoy" protests over mask mandates in Canada's capitol allegedly called in a bomb threat to waste the police's time -- but he called the wrong Ottawa.

According to officials, the 20-year-old Akron, Ohio man wanted authorities in Ottawa to waste their time chasing down the fake threats to get away from the protestors.

But, instead, he called the Putnam County Sheriff's Office in Ottawa, Ohio.

According to Putnam County officials, the man called twice on Monday. The first call was about a bomb threat and then during the second call he said he had been shot.

Once the man was told that he was speaking to authorities in Ohio -- not Canada -- he admitted that there wasn't a bomb threat and that he wasn't shot, said the sheriff's office.

Prosecutors are currently considering pressing charges against the man and police have confirmed the man has been arrested while both cities work together to investigate the case.
