Parole absconder who shot at police near Lansing arrested after days-long manhunt

JACKSON (WWJ) — The manhunt for a man who allegedly shot at Lansing-area police officers last Friday has ended with his arrest.

The Michigan State Police First District Fugitive Task Force arrested 31-year-old Marcus Oglesby Tuesday morning in Jackson, several days after he eluded capture in Delta Township, just west of Lansing.

Authorities did not disclose any further details about Oglesby's arrest Tuesday, but said he was held at the Jackson County Jail. No charging information was immediately released.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Friday officers with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) Absconder Recovery Unit spotted Oglesby — who was wanted on numerous felony warrants, including aggravated assault — riding as a passenger in a black Jeep Patriot in Lansing Township.

As the Jeep entered Delta Township, Oglesby allegedly got out and fired at the MDOC agents, who returned fire. Neither the agents nor Oglesby were hit by gunfire, officials said Friday.

Oglesby then got back in the Jeep, which fled the area. Authorities followed the vehicle as it pulled into the Westland Center Plaza at Waverly Road and W. Saginaw Highway, where the suspect ran away.

Authorities later found the Jeep behind a home on Drexel Street in Lansing, but Oglesby was not found during a search of the home.

During the manhunt police had been stressing that Oglesby was to be considered armed and dangerous and authorities were urging anyone who saw him to stay away and call 911.
