TROY (WWJ) -- A 28-year-old man has been convicted of manslaughter for killing a Detroit firefighter after a road rage incident last summer.

The defendant, Terell Josey, engaged in an alleged "traffic altercation" with 55-year-old Frank Dombrowski that ended with the two men confronting each other at a gas station on Rochester Rd in Troy.

After a brief argument, Josey shot Dombrowski three times and fled with his girlfriend, who was driving their vehicle during the incident.

Dombrowski died of his wounds in the hospital that night.

Josey turned himself into police the next morning to face murder and weapons charges.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reported from the courthouse on Monday afternoon, when a jury convicted Josey of manslaughter.

Judge Daniel O'Brien of the Oakland County Circuit Court sentenced Josey to 5-to-15 years in prison. Josey must also serve two additional years for the use of a firearm in the felony.

The victim's sister, Teresa Niiro, was tearful as she shared her thoughts on the conviction.

"I mean nothing will replace my brother. We're a close family. It's been quite devastating for us," Teresa said.

"I don't always agree with some of the things that were said in there, but I understand how justice works, and you don't always get what you think is the appropriate thing."

Dombrowski was a senior lieutenant and 30-year member of the Detroit Fire Department.
