DETROIT (WWJ) -- Motown star Martha Reeves is hoping to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but she’ll need thousands of dollars and support from fans to make it happen.

The Detroit native was nominated for the honor in 2021 by her former manager, whom Reeves thought would pay the required $55,000 fee to The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which covers the installation of the star and its maintenance.

Although Reeves’ nomination was accepted, she is now under new management, and has launched an online fundraiser to pay the hefty fee and other expenses in order to receive her award.

Unfortunately, the singer only has about three months to raise the money, as this year’s official nominees will be formally announced in June.

"If we do not make a sizeable indentation to our goal, it is likely that Martha's Hollywood Star selection will be withdrawn, and we will have to start the nomination process all over again (which could take several years)," Reeves' current manager, Chris Roe, said on the campaign page.

The total goal from Reeves’ camp is $80,000, which would cover the star itself and the induction ceremony, as well as the singer’s travel, hotel and other expenses.

Chris Roe notes that many celebrities who receive a Hollywood Star have their fee covered by a movie production studio or record label, though others — including fellow Motown group the Funk Brothers — have crowdfunded in the past.

Reeves rose to fame in the 1960s as the lead singer of the trio Martha and the Vandellas, who reached success with hit songs like “Dancing in the Street,” “Jimmy Mack" and “Heat Wave."

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of their debut album, “Come and Get These Memories."
