EASTPOINTE (WWJ) -- A woman accused of stabbing her manager to death at an Eastpointe McDonald's was back in court on Wednesday.

Afeni Muhammad, 26, was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine if she's competent to stand trial.

Muhammad is charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of her manager, Jennifer Harris, after some sort of dispute.

Authorities say she was sent home from work on July 10, returned to the restaurant with a kitchen knife and stabbed Harris, a 39-year-old mother of six, as many as 15 times.

Police said Muhammad confessed to the stabbing.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett reported the hearing on Wednesday in 38th District Court lasted only about three minutes.

Muhammad stood mute, while her defense attorney, Josh Jones, confirmed that a psychiatric evaluation of his client did indeed take place. He said the results of that evaluation are still pending.

Muhammad did not want the evaluation, according to Jones, who said he requested it against his client's wishes.

"Formally, I'm the one that made it on the record, yes," Jones said. "There was on objection by the prosecutor and of course there was no objection from the court, in the sense that they didn't try to stop me."

Judge Kathleen Galen set an Oct. 8 hearing to receive and review the results of the psychological test.
