
LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) – The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan since the beginning of the pandemic continues to approach 2 million, as state health officials provided the latest updates on Monday.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported just under 40,000 new confirmed cases over the last three days, bringing Michigan’s total to just over 1,905,000 since March 2020.
There were an average of 13,124 confirmed cases reported on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, MDHHS said.
Health officials also reported 36 more deaths related to the virus. Michigan’s death toll since the start of the pandemic is more than 29,200.
WWJ Health Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites reports the settings seeing the most outbreaks of the coronavirus are K-12 schools (117 current outbreaks), long-term care facilities (65) and childcare and youth programs (23).

Nineteen schools in Saginaw County are currently dealing with outbreaks, while seven schools in Washtenaw County are reporting outbreaks with a total of 51 cases.
There were no newly reported cases in Oakland or Macomb Counties, though one school in Wayne County – Allen Park Middle School – reported six cases among students.
MDHHS officials say testing has increased to between 50,000-60,000 test per day, with the seven-day positive test rate at 32%, as of Jan. 20.
Hospitalizations decreased over the last week.
