DETROIT (WWJ) — The search is on for a pair of men who allegedly installed credit card skimmers in multiple Detroit stores.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18 two men walked into a business on 8 Mile Road between Evergreen and Lahser Roads and installed a skimmer device on a credit/debit machine, before leaving the store, according to Detroit police.

Credit card skimmers are “small, illegal devices that fit on top of real card readers at self-service sale terminals in order to steal your personal data. They are designed to blend in with the rest of the machine, making them tough to spot,” according to LifeLock.

The same suspects allegedly installed skimmers at two other Detroit businesses — one on Gratiot near Mt. Elliott and one on Conner near Warren.

Officials did not name any of the businesses where the crimes allegedly happened and it was not clear if they all happened on the same day.

The Detroit Police Department on Thursday released a photo of the two suspects and asked for the public’s help in identifying them.

One man was wearing a blue hat, black shirt, dark jeans and white shoes. The other was wearing a black jacket, black hat and blue jeans.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes either suspect or knows something about the crimes to call DPD’s 8th Precinct at 313-596-5840, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP, or visit the DetroitRewards.tv website.
