Think fall is on Metro Detroit’s doorstep? Think again.
After seeing some rather fall-like temperatures across Metro Detroit last week, forecasters say high heat is about to come charging back – especially later this week.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dean DeVore says Thursday could be “the hottest day of the summer so far.”
“And maybe of the entirety of the summer looking forward,” DeVore said.
Monday was hot and sticky in its own right, as temperatures climbed into the 80s with RealFeel temps in the upper 80s.
But Thursday could be a whole different level, as AccuWeather predicts high temperatures around 95 degrees, while the RealFeel could touch triple digits.
DeVore says Thursday’s heat could be preceded by “some strong thunderstorm chances” Wednesday afternoon with damaging winds and downpours.
“And then it’s gonna heat up,” he said.
Many schools across Michigan begin their high school football seasons on Thursday, so health officials will be reminding players and coaches to stay hydrated.
As for the weekend, temperatures are expected to come back to a much more bearable range – in the upper 70s most of the weekend.
Devore also says Southeast Michigan will continue to experience some of that smoke haze from the Canadian wildfires this week.
