FLINT (WWJ) -- A Michigan man almost got away with the murder of his wife, but the persistence of her family has now resulted in a conviction.

Jason Thomas Harris of Davison was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder, solicitation of murder and delivery of a controlled substance causing death.

Harris, 47, was accused of murdering his wife in Sept. 2014 by lacing her cereal with a lethal dose of heroin.

According to the Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton, Harris now faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Christina Ann-Thompson Harris, then 36, was found dead in her home in Davison seven years ago. Her death was ruled as an accidental overdose by the Genesee County Medical Examiner, though her family insisted she never used drugs.

Her preserved breast milk was discovered two years later, and tests found there were no traces of drugs in the milk. The ruling was changed in Aug. 2019 from overdose to homicide.

Detectives later uncovered correspondence between Harris and other women prior to the death of Christina Harris, and another woman moved into their shared Davison home just two weeks after her passing.

Harris was also the recipient of an insurance payout totaling $120,000 after the death of his wife.

"This was a very tragic case and my heart goes out to the family and friends of Christina Harris for their terrible loss," Leyton said. "The circumstances of this case make for a unique story and garner headlines in the media, but at the core of it, a family is mourning the loss of their loved one and I only hope that today's verdict will help them with closure as they continue to grieve."

Harris is expected to be sentenced in December.
