GRAND TRAVERSE CO. (WWJ) -- A man and a woman are facing drug charges after a traffic stop in Grand Traverse County last Friday.
The couple from Kinsley, which is south of Traverse City, was pulled over at around 9:30 p.m. on March 8, for an "equipment violation," according to Michigan State Police.
Police said the driver, a 33-year-old man, was found to be driving with a suspended license.
Upon further investigation, troopers discovered that the front-seat passenger, a 32-year-old woman, was in possession of methamphetamine.
The driver told police that the woman was holding the drugs for him.
Troopers then searched the vehicle, finding drug paraphernalia and marijuana "throughout the vehicle," as well as in the woman’s belongings, police said.
There were three children in the back seat near the drugs and drug paraphernalia, MSP said.
Both the driver and the passenger were arrested and taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail.
The children were turned over to a family member, police said.
As the investigation continued, MSP said troopers were led to the couple's camper on Voice Road, where they were living with their children.
Inside the camper, police said they found and seized more drugs and evidence, including a four-gram bag of meth.
Police added that the camper was found to be in an "extremely unsanitary condition."
The suspects' names were not immediately released, pending their arraignment.
