(WWJ) Add this to the list of things becoming unaffordable: gas.
According to AAA, gas prices increased by 14 cents overnight. As of Friday morning, drivers are now paying an average of $4.89 for a gallon of regular gas in Michigan.
Looking at prices across the state, Metro Detroit is seeing some of the lowest — although many stations are selling gas for at or over $5 a-gallon.
This also marks the third straight day that we've set a record high for diesel. Drivers are paying an average of $6.68 for a gallon of diesel, according to AAA.
While plenty of people talking with WWJ's Charlie Langton complained about the prices, truck drivers had the most to say.
Al, who delivers for KBD Meats in Eastern Market, said "I'll put it like this: 300 (dollars) used to get me a full tank! Now it just went to 3/4 of a tank. It makes a difference."
Some gas stations do limit the amount of diesel you can pump at a time to $300 max, meaning truckers have to make more re-fueling stops.
Barry, who drivers for Johnny's Distribution, said it costs a couple of hundred dollars each to fill his truck's two tanks.
He's just glad that the company paying for the gas, and it's not coming out of his pocket.
"A lot of people are selling their trucks and going back to company driving," he told Langton. "Yeah, I saw a lot of that online. And it hurts a lot, because I was thinking about becoming an owner/operator. But with these gas prices I might as well stick to my company."
