WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) – A man is in police custody, accused of murdering his girlfriend, a Michigan public school teacher.

Charles Richard Gamez is being held without bond on open murder charges in relation to the death of Alyson Doulos, who worked as an English teacher at Jackson High School.

Family members asked the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office to perform a welfare check at Doulos’ Ypsilanti-area home on Monday, March 13 after she failed to show up to school and hadn’t spoken to family.

Deputies eventually entered her home, where they found Doulos dead, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.

Gamez was arrested Friday night and arraigned Saturday. He remains in the Washtenaw County Jail.

Authorities have not released any information about the manner of death or a possible motive in the case.

Doulos, 48, taught 10th grade English and had been the National Honor Society advisor for Jackson High School since 2020, according to a report from MLive.
