(WWJ) -- Michigan is outperforming powerhouse rival states like Florida, Georgia, and Indiana when it comes to attracting new jobs and business.
CNBC’s annual America’s Top States for Business places Michigan at No. 6 in the nation for 2026. The state also held onto its No. 4 ranking specifically for the low cost of doing business; which tracks corporate tax climates, utilities, and wages.
“Michigan is a place where everyone can succeed,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done to make this ranking possible, such as creating jobs, bringing advanced manufacturing home, preparing our workforce, and lowering costs. This national recognition is a sign that Michigan is on the move, and when people do business here, they win big. Let’s keep rolling up our sleeves and getting things done for every Michigander.”
When Governor Whitmer first took office in 2019, Michigan ranked No. 24 in the same yearly survey. The state has been in the top ten for now the fifth time under her administration.
Economic leaders say the high score proves Michigan's skilled workforce and infrastructure investments are delivering results, despite tough global supply chain conditions.
