The latest update brings Michigan’s total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 1,481,480, with 26,650 deaths statewide since the start of the pandemic.

According to the data, the 274 deaths reported over the last five days included 158 that were identified during a Vital Records review.

Regular reviews of death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems are conducted by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS)  three times a week.

Health officials warn that Michigan is in a fourth surge of the virus, as more omicron cases continue to be confirmed across the state.

Hospitalizations in Michigan have seen a slight decline over the past two weeks, but are still hovering near record-high levels.

Currently, 62.5% of Michiganders ages 16 and older have been fully vaccinated, while 68.1% of residents within that age group have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

As of Monday, more than 10.8 million doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide.
