TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ) -- A baby bald eagle that fell from its nest a couple of weeks ago in Northern Michigan continues to recover, but we now know that it's a girl!
Snow had a fracture on each wing, and is being card for at the North Sky Raptor Sanctuary in Interlochen.
Staff at the sanctuary initially believed that Snow was a boy based on her small foot size and small stature, but now say but DNA tests confirm she's a in fact a female.
Snow, now over two months old, had not started flying yet when the family's nest collapsed. Her parents, Harry and Harriet, were not harmed.
Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher, North Sky Raptor Sanctuary Exec. director Kaitlyn Bohnet said Snow's wing fractures are recovering.
She also said Snow has developed a bit of an attitude, even though she was still supposed to be in bandages over the weekend.
Note that this interview happened earlier this week, prior to the big gender reveal.
"He that he was not going to be in bandages over the weekend, and as soon as those bandages would get applied, you'd know later, come back for a second round of feeding, and he had removed them all. So he's perking up," Bohnet said. "He's starting to have some behaviorally appropriate and developmentally appropriate behaviors."
They were concerned about a breathing issue, but Bohnet said breathing treatments and medicine worked.
Everybody wants to know when Snow will be able to get back out to the wild. Bohnet said it's not time yet, but they're hopeful that Snow will be able to fly at some point.
