EAST LANSING (WWJ) -- Michigan State University has a new interim president.

Teresa Woodruff has been appointed to the post while the MSU Board of Trustees continues to conduct a national search for a new president.

Currently serving as the the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, Woodruff will step in for Dr. Samuel Stanley, who resigned earlier this month after saying he had lost confidence in the Board of Trustees.

"I know very well from the outpouring of support from students, staff, faculty, shared governance, alumni donors … that many of you will be profoundly disappointed with this decision," Stanley said in a video message sent to students on Oct. 13. "But I, like the Michigan State University Senate and associated students of Michigan State University, have lost confidence in the actions of the current Board of Trustees and I cannot in good conscience continue to serve this board as constituted."

Woodruff, who was appointed unanimously by the board, says she is committed to Michigan State’s students, staff, alumni and trustees to make the university a better place.

She is slated to start her new position on Friday.
