OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) – A 4-year-old Boston Terrier was found running along I-75 in Holly Township, Michigan State Police said.

Troopers from the Metro North Post were dispatched to the freeway around 2:50 p.m. Friday, April 11, for a dog running on the freeway.

When troopers arrived on scene, they found several drivers chasing the dog across the open freeway with traffic speeding by.

Michigan State Police officials say the troopers were able to corral all of the loose drivers back into their cars, before setting off to find the dog.

They found the dog off the freeway.  The Boston Terrier was identified by her collar tag as “Potato.”  Troopers put her into the front seat of the patrol car and safely returned her to her owner.

Now, Michigan State Police are urging drivers not to get out of their cars, even for a dog.

First Lieutenant Mike Shaw says: “We know it is a natural instinct to jump out of your car and try to catch a dog on the freeway. The better plan is to call 911 so responders can stop the traffic before someone gets hurt.”
