(WWJ) Michigan State Police are still searching for suspects after a road rage shooting on the Lodge Freeway sent one person to a hospital on Wednesday.
MSP said the shooting happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. on May 14, along the southbound Lodge near 8 Mile Rd.
State police say their Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls of a shooting that happened near the Lodge and possibly Seven Mile.
When troopers arrived, they found Detroit EMS treating a 64-year-old man from Birmingham for a gunshot wound. The man was alert and conscious on scene and taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Troopers found the man's vehicle with several bullet holes.
In an update Thursday, MSP said detectives have established the motive in this shooting as a road rage incident.
“It is disappointing to hear that another traffic dispute led to gunfire,” said MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw, in a statement. “I cannot stress enough that it is only driving. A driving error should never lead to the use of a weapon.”
The southbound lanes were closed at 8 Mile during the Wednesday afternoon commute, as troopers with the Metro South Post and the Second District Special Investigation Section were on the scene investigating.
MSP urged drivers, as a result of this incident, to expect heavy traffic.
Police noted: "A reminder that this also serves as the detour for I-696. There will be heavy traffic in the area. Try a different route if possible."
All lanes have since reopened.
Any one with information about this crime is asked to call 855.MICH.TIP or Crime Stoppers 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
