LANSING (WWJ) Michigan State Police (MSP) said they stopped nearly 800 drivers during their brief Move Over enforcement initiative.
MSP launched the effort to crack down on Michigan's Move Over Law. Under the law, drivers must move over a lane when they see an emergency or service vehicle with its lights on at the side of the road.
The driver must also slow down to at least 10 MPH below the posted speed limit. If the driver cannot safely move over, he or she must decrease speed to at least 10 MPH below the posted speed limit and proceed with caution.
MSP said deputies stopped a total of 798 drivers during their five-hour initiative on Monday, July 20. Out of these stops, 127 of them were for failing to move over for emergency vehicles with their lights activated.
The other citations included 134 for speeding, eight for failing to use a seatbelt, 19 for texting, 15 for window tinting and 60 for other various infractions.
