GLADSTONE, Mich. (WWJ) – A substitute bus driver in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is out of a job after getting into a fight with a student earlier this week.
The "very unfortunate incident" happened Monday afternoon when the substitute driver "mishandled a behavior issue with a student," according to Dr. Jay Kulbertis, Superintendent of Gladstone Area Schools, located along Little Bay Noc, north of Escanaba.
Kulbertis described it as "a physical altercation," though no exact details of what happened were released.
"This is inexcusable and completely unacceptable for any adult that is associated with our school district," he said in a letter to parents. "Please be assured that we are working with Gladstone Public Safety to facilitate a complete investigation."
The sub driver was notified that he will no longer be working for the school district.
"We hope that you can also help assure your children that we put their safety as our top priority," the letter said. "We apologize for this incident, and we will work hard to earn back the trust of parents and students as we address this issue with all of our staff and substitutes."
It was not clear whether anyone was injured or if the driver may face criminal charges.
