SHARON TWP. (WWJ) -- One person was killed in a fire that broke out Sunday night in a very old home in Washtenaw County.

According to the Michigan State Police, officers with the Brighton post responded at around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 about a fire at a house on Sharon Hollow Road in Sharon Twp., which is south of Chelsea.

When troopers arrived, they found that the home was already fully engulfed in flames.

The house was a complete loss within minutes due to the older construction, MSP said, as it is believed the house was built in the mid 1800s.

Troopers spoke with neighbors who said they thought only one person lived in the home, and it is the believed that person was inside at the time of the fire.

Officials said the resident's car was parked in the driveway, and neighbors said they'd last spoken to the person at around 6 p.m. that evening. No information has been released about the person.

MSP said, after the fire was put out by the Manchester Fire Department, the body was found inside.

Officials were no immediately able to confirm that the person found dead was in fact the resident, due to the condition of the body. MSP said the remains were transported to the University of Michigan for an autopsy and positive identification.

As for how the fire started, an investigation by an MSP fire investigator is ongoing. Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to call the MSP Brighton Post at 810-227-1051.
