PORT HURON (WWJ) -- A Thumb-area woman is facing embezzlement and other charges after it's alleged she tricked a vulnerable, elderly person, and then took her money.
The Michigan Attorney General said 56-year-old Lisa Marie Tramski, of St. Clair County's Burtchville was arraigned in the 72nd District Court on three felony counts for her alleged illegal actions back in 2018.
According to investigators, early that year Tramski was appointed guardian for the victim, who would die only weeks later.
About a week before the victim's death, Tramski allegedly had the victim sign a will leaving everything to Tramski. It is alleged that, despite knowing there were legal challenges to the will, Tramski proceeded to take $86,033.75 from the victim’s accounts, the AG's office said.
“Many individuals serve as appointed guardians for vulnerable adults throughout the state and most perform their duties with honesty and integrity,” said Attorney General Dana Nessel, in a media release. “My office will continue to investigate and prosecute alleged abuses of power, and to hold accountable those who victimize the people they are supposed to be helping.”
Ultimately, the probate court invalidated the will benefitting Tramski.
She is charged with one count of embezzlement of $50,000 to $100,000, one count of failure to file a tax return, and one count of making/permitting the filing of false tax returns. All three of these charges are felonies.
Tramski's next scheduled court date is a probable cause conference on March 12.
