(WWJ) Michigan has something to boast about on World Tourism Day.

Nick Nerbonne, Media, Digital & Industry Relations Director for Travel Michigan, said that Michigan’s tourism is getting back to levels not seen since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with WWJ's Luke Sloan, Nerbonne said this rebound is good news for the state’s economy.

“It's a $48.5 billion industry bringing in economic growth to small businesses, to downtown shopping districts and all aspects of Michigan communities,” Nerbonne said.

Michigan doesn’t just see travelers Up North.

Nerbonne said that locations like Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing can also attract a number of tourists.

Nerbonne said there are destinations for everyone, from people looking for adventures to those hunting for their new favorite restaurant. The state has over 100 state parks and five national parks including Pictured Rocks and Sleeping Bear Dunes.

This time of year sees people coming out to see what Michigan has to offer Nerbonne said.

“As we look towards fall and the fall colors beginning to emerge across the state, it’s a wonderful time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful places across the state,” Nerbonne said.
