WINDSOR (WWJ) -- Police are searching for several suspects — and more than 1,000 missing cases of Crown Royal whiskey — after thieves pulled off a heist in Windsor, Ontario.

According to the Windsor Police Service, on May 17, the suspects broke into a fenced in area in the 3300 block of Devon Drive, near the Devonshire Mall, and stole the semi tractor trailer where the booze was being stored.

Police said the thieves made off over 1,000 cases of Crown Royal, with a retail value of half-a-million dollars.

The trailer was found the next day, but the whiskey was gone.

Windsor detectives don't have a whole lot go on, other that a short surveillance video clip showing someone standing near the semi in a parking lot. He can be seen directing a large U-Haul truck to back up behind the doors of the truck trailer.

They believe the suspects, maybe six or more, used that rental truck to transport some of the stolen alcohol down the road to the 401, taking it to other cities.

Crown Royal is the best selling Canadian whiskey brand in the world.
