MARQUETTE COUNTY (WWJ) - The identity of a kayaker whose body was recovered from Lake Superior earlier this month has been made public by authorities in the Upper Peninsula on Wednesday.
Michigan State Police said the man in his 30s, Ayala Lopez, was found dead in Marquette’s lower harbor the evening of March 12.
Lopez was first reported missing just before 9 p.m. Troopers, along with the United States Coast Guard and Marquette police officers, tried to locate the man when they discovered an unoccupied kayak washed ashore, MSP added.
Nearly two hours later, Lopez's body was spotted and pulled from the water around 11:00 p.m.
According to troopers, no foul play is suspected.
