LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) – Michigan State Police are reportedly investigating allegations of sexual assault involving former House Speaker Lee Chatfield.
An attorney says Chatfield allegedly had a sexual relationship with a girl that began about 11 years ago when she was around 15 years old, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.
The alleged relationship recently ended, according to the attorney, per the report.
The alleged sexual contact began while Chatfield was working at a school and church the girl was attending near his home in northern Michigan.
MSP are apparently investigating the allegations after Lansing police referred a complaint to them.
The news was first reported by Lansing Pulse, which reported the alleged victim was his sister-in-law. The woman's lawyer, Jamie White, previously represented a number of women who were victims of disgraced Michigan State University sports doctor Larry Nassar.
Chatfield, 33, rose to prominence at a young age and was said to have a bright political future, but is not currently in office due to term limits, according to the Freep.
